The Senate has deferred any agreement on visiting and funds distribution until after the 6 week summer recess.
Regardless of the rights or songs of further government borrowing, the Senate has effectively ensured that no Government infrastructure project will commence this year.
This has been achieved by pushing any debate on these issues until after the summer recess meaning that even if agreed thereafter, there will be little time during 2017 to mobilise anything to stimulate the economy or employment.
The means there is only one thing we can be sure of…… The senators have not been sufficiently “motivated” in order to push any funding through the senate.
Regardless of the negative effect of this decision, one could argue that it implies some integrity from the office of the Acting President. However, the counter point is the economic effect of such a delay especially due to the ability of government spending to stimulate the economy.
